Sponsorship questions

Decisions sponsors face.

  • Inland: spouse is in Canada, gets Open Work Permit during processing, but cannot leave Canada until PR. Outland: faster in some visa offices, allows travel. We pick based on current backlog and your circumstances.

  • IRCC opens a lottery interest window once a year. Selected sponsors are invited to apply. Super Visa is the bridge while waiting for selection.

  • Officers assess whether the relationship is real and not for immigration. Joint finances, communications history, photos with family, time spent together, and consistency of testimony are the main evidence types.

  • Yes — same-sex spousal and common-law sponsorship is fully recognised under Canadian law.

PGP lottery interest opens once a year.
